Malcolm Leylands photographic work aim to recreate the multi-perspective view of the world we have as we move through life. The various views connote action and perhaps the situational and emotional outcomes that these points in time would suggest.
Exhibition notes:
‘From the Forest’ results from my attempt to capture the experience of walking through a forest. The exhibition represents a body of work made over two years while walking the same path from my house to Newlands Corner set in the north downs of the Surrey Hills. Like artists of the past observing their surrounding landscape, I became more and more obsessed with the grand scale and elegant detail of nature. And like those older artists, I found it necessary to abstract and adjust. All my works are composite images taken from my immediate surroundings to build an experience more akin to the reality of a memory. A memory re-experienced.
